Om does The Oscars like nobody else!
Apparently, the folks at Om (www.omrestaurant.com) have thought of this!
On February 26, come join the cinephiles and foodies at Harvard Square’s most creative eatery and night spot for an Oscar party like no other. After all, where else can you take in the red carpet (and make catty remarks about the outfits) while nibbling on creations by an acclaimed chef like Patricia Yeo?
“The idea comes from our own interests in pop culture, politics and the community,” explains Om’s resident Nightlife Director Zach Gexler, “and seeing a need for a space to hangout for such events.”
As Om’s recent State of the Union party helped make Obama’s baloney palatable, Gexler is confident that Om can turn even a selfcongratulating awards show into a night to remember. With their large TVs and killer sound system, suave ambience, attentive staff and plenty of room to discuss the winners and losers and to find some new people to catch flicks with in the future, Om is the perfect place to catch the Oscars, the President, or just a drink and a bite to eat.
“We want to offer the community a comfortable, casual and fun space to be able to enjoy events in a community setting,” Gexler explains.
Speaking of community, the Om-pire is about to expand into a new community when Chef Yeo moves part time down the street to Moksa in Central Square. While the final plans are still in the works, Gexler mentioned that the Oscar party may serve as a bit of a preview as a proposed menu features the dumplings, momos, and other Asian “street” fare that will be celebrated at Moksa. “We will be offering some sort of themed drink specials,” Gexler adds, suggesting a prosecco-based cocktail for the ladies, and a whiskey sour-type cocktail for the gentlemen. “We want to keep it classy and old school.”
The evening will end with its own awards ceremony for the guests who guessed/predicted the most actual winners correctly.
“There will also be some other twists throughout the night,” Gexler says, hinting at the possibility of a “fashion police” squad to take care of the best and worst dressed on the screen and even at the event! When asked who he is picking, Gexler demurs, “I have no real predictions yet. I have to wait for the chatter to start up again to get a gage.”
No matter who wins or loses in Hollywood, however, all those who gather at Om to take them in will surely have as good a night as those for whom it is “an honor just to be nominated.”
