Though it may not be New York (OK- we admit it!), Boston has a lot to do. From the world-renown Boston Ballet to the Museum of Fine Arts to a stroll along the Charles or down Newbury Street, there is rarely a dull moment in Boston (at least before midnight).
On January 30 at 7 PM Big City in Allston, a new popular player will come to the Hub. That is the night when Chicago-based I Wish Lessons (www.iwishlessons.com) makes its debut with a whiskey and cupcake tasting.
“We can’t really imagine a better pairing than fine whiskey and gourmet cupcakes,” explains I Wish co-founder Blake DeBaske, “so, as we’re known to do, we created it!” This creative spirit is what sets I Wish apart from other adult education and social interaction organizations and what has helped the group gain fans from New York to LA.
At the event, guests will be guided through a tasting of some of the world’s finest whiskeys while learning about what goes into each one. “We’ll point out what makes for an extraordinary variety,” DeBaske says, adding that participants will also get tips on pairing the beverage with cupcakes and other treats.
When asked where they got the idea, co-founder David Chung recalls that he once saw an employee pairing whiskey and cupcakes at a private party. ”He thought it was a great idea for a pairing class,” Chung recalls. “He was right!”
According to Chung, I Wish was created to offer people an easier way to
what is the history?
We started in Chicago where the company was originally conceived to work what he calls “fun learning” into their lives.
“Our mission is to help people enjoy life through learning,” Chung explains.
Having made a huge splash in Chicago over the past three years hosting events that range from beer and bacon tastings to bowling, I Wish has been expanding and is looking forward to planting their fun flag in Boston.
“Boston is such a great city,” Chung observes, noting our “deep culture of creativity”. “Marry that with all the things to do here and we think you have a city full of people who will really appreciate learning fun activities.”
When asked for whom I Wish is intended, Chung replies, “All types come to our classes,” noting that past events have hosted singles, couples, and people of all ages and walks of life. So whether you want to meet someone, share a unique experience with someone or just eat and drink a lot of good stuff, make I Wish your wish come true!
