Dillon’s to host food drive November 13
“The idea came from our own drive to get involved with the community,” explains GM Paul Bruno, who also mentions past events to raise money and awareness for such diverse causes as the St Baldricks Foundation, Toys for Tots, and the Multiple Sclerosis society.
As Dillon’s is also a great bar, there will be plenty of “cheer” on hand, including free drinks from Double Cross Vodka for all contributors.
“Each guest [that] brings in two or more non-perishable items [will] receive a complimentary cocktail,” Bruno explains. “The next day, we drop the items at the Food Bank.” “Last year, the drive collected over 200 pounds of canned and boxed foods from over 75 contributors.”
“We did it a week before Thanksgiving last year,” Bruno recalls, suggesting that such an event is “appropriate” for this time of year because, he says, “We are in a position to draw a crowd and help a great cause that helps other people the are in an unfortunate position during the holidays.”
As this season is especially difficult for many of their clients, the folks at the Food Bank are especially thankful for the help.
“We appreciate the efforts made by the staff at Dillon’s to raise awareness of hunger relief and to gather food donations to benefit people in need,” says GBFB spokesperson Stacy Wong. “Everyone has a role in ending hunger in our community, and we urge people to find their roles, whether it is donating money or food or time, or a combination of all three.”
